We all believe that a leader is somebody you can look upon, especially when we really feel confused and demoralized. Very good leaders are the type who pick us up, as well as motivate us, to reach our objectives. So how can we pinpoint an outstanding leader? How can we grow to become a great leader ourselves? There will come a time when you will be required to turn into a good leader. It might be being a leader in a family, a residential district group, an ethnical group or a corporation and we need to be good at it however, many of us are not born leaders. And this is where leadership training comes in.

Leadership skills can be mastered, and again, no person is born a leader. All the good leaders in the past and in the present had and have issues in popularity that make them what they are – good leaders. So what exactly do good leaders have in common? It is their perception of other people’s thoughts, and how they are able to encourage everybody to be at their finest.

Knowing about how your group feels, their well being, their interests, their dreams, as well as their worries will bring them nearer to you due to the fact you recognize where they are coming from. This can help them become more confident in coming up to you.
As a leader and manager, are you finding that you can’t possible do everything yourself? What are some of the things which take up most of your time that you could be using to lead your team? As you are asking yourself these things, surely you realize that you must find the second chair leaders who will do the best at taking on the responsibilities which you are giving up. So how do you identify and develop the best leaders to do these things? If this is a question you have been asking yourself, there is a simple process which can get the best results.

To begin with, identify the second chair candidates based on their character first and then their skills. It is easy to delegate something to the most capable person in order to solve a short term problem. However, in leadership it is unwise to do anything which could make a problem a part of the future instead of the past. If you delegate a task to someone who does have the basic characteristics of a leader like humility, perseverance and a strong desire to succeed, then you may find that you have made a bed in a burning house.

Second, look for the person who already has a high level of respect and reputation among the other members of your team. A pleasing personality is one of the most important tools in inspiring others to follow you. If your potential leader has a good reputation among the other team members you can be assured that they are well on their way to becoming someone who the team could accept as a leader. In spite of the fact that someone else may be more talented, again you want to keep in mind the long term benefits of your choice to appoint a future leader.

The third step is to asses a person’s commitment to the task as well as their capability. This means that if a person is able to do something but their willingness is lacking then you are better off appointing someone else. Sure, they may agree to the task at first, but again you have to consider the long term consequences and judge accordingly. Once you have assessed their willingness, make sure that you appoint the task depending on whether or not they are socially driven or solitude driven. Solitude driven people are more analytical and work better alone, while social people work better with human interaction. Appointing people to tasks based on their strengths will again ensure the best long term consequences.

Finally, set expectations which are clear and measurable before the task is delegated. This is the most important rule for good delegation and if it is not followed you will end up with a real problem on your hands. Clarifying expectations and making them measurable is best done when you first find out if the person is willing to do the task. The best way to do this is to clarify the expectations with them and make sure that they can tell you in their own words what they understand them to be. This may seem simple, but it will ensure that no time is wasted doing things over. Follow these steps in order and you will find that empowering new leaders is truly the key to effective management and duplication.

Did you know that the only thing which is more valuable than talent is the ability to recognize and to cultivate talent in others? You may already realize that the key to effective leadership is duplication and that being able to do so will free you up to lead more effectively. So how can you identify the aspiring leaders within your team and empower them to take on more responsibility for you and the team? If you are looking for the answer to this question and are ready to develop the potential leaders on your team there are three skills you must master.

First, find the person who does more work than they are being paid to do or even asked to do, you can even test people on this. A leader is constantly looking to the horizon towards new opportunities and not just to what needs to be done in the moment. This is because they understand that there will be a valuable return for it in the future and those who think this way are already leaders by means of their character. Recognizing them and giving them more responsibility is only going to magnify their ambition. Once that happens, you can be assured that these are the people who will be creating the momentum which your team needs.

Second, look for the people who respect other positions within the organization, both those equal and those ‘under’ them. A great leader is always going to understand that true leadership is about character more than it is position. When they become a leader themselves, they already have ninety percent of what it takes to become one. Once they have the title, you can be sure that they will not get intoxicated with the privileges and that they will be able to focus on their responsibilities as a leader.

And the third and most important principle is to give a person all the authority that they need to carry out their responsibility. This is the principle of trust and it is the fastest way to duplicate leadership. It will require giving a person the safety to fail so that they can work without fear of judgment or criticism. As hard as this may be at first it is the key to empowering people to take action and initiative on their own and to give it their best. Not only that, when a person knows that they have been trusted they will hold themselves to a higher standard than you ever could.

Remember, the leaders whom you raise up are the very people whose shoulders you will stand on when you go to move to the next level. You have other things to focus on for the future and these people are the ones who will empower you to put your eyes towards the horizon. Take the first two of these principles and make sure that they are in place and the third one will take care of the rest. Pretty soon you will find that the leaders you have chosen are the ones who will challenge you to be the best leader you can.

Are you looking for some tips to maximize the personal effectiveness of your team members and to helping them use their strengths? As you know, a team’s effectiveness is only as good as the collective strengths of each individual, but you also need to have synergy among your members. How can you maximize the strengths of each member while at the same time making sure that the team works together towards a common goal? Since these principles are so important in order to have your team thrive, you must learn and apply these basic principles in order to get the results you are after.

First, help people to focus on their strengths by eliminating the need or requirement to work on their weaknesses. It is always discouraging to work on things which are only going to be become satisfactory at best. But if you are able to have these responsibilities moved to someone who is better suited for them, then you are empowering both the team member relieved of the duty and the one who is able to make the most of their strength. Acknowledging that a person’s weaknesses only represents what they are not and allowing them better use of their strengths will ensure that they will be empowered and enthusiastic.

The second technique is being able to let go of supervising your team member’s methods for achieving results. This means that there is much less attention given to the process and more to the objective being aimed for. Chances are that your team members have more ingenuity than you or they realize. Giving them the room to use their own methods to achieve results will free up your time and will encourage them to make the most of their natural strengths. Management is a good thing of course, but the best kind of management is self management. This will ensure that you will be able to use the energy to focus on more important things.

Finally, give each team member a chance to train others in the areas where they themselves are strong. Teaching can be a powerfully effective tool for the teacher to learn and to strengthen their skills. However, there is a much more important principle at work here: duplication. Duplication is the key to great leadership and it is the most important principle for building strengths. If you have one team member who excels at closing sales, surely they could teach something to those who may not have that skill as their strength. This will also build a great level of morale and ownership for each team member, especially the one who is given the place to share their expertise with others.

While it may take some time, the cultivation of strengths is not something which can be expected to be accomplished quickly. It is more important to focus on consistency and on progress. Empowering people to use their strengths is just as much a process of building trust as it is of honing a skill to perfection. People often posses much more strength or skill than they are using and in order to make the most of these skills they must be developed at the correct pace. These principles will give that room to happen in the most efficient way.

As leader, are you finding that the most valuable asset in your organization and outside of it is people? What if you could increase the impact of your ability to lead people so that you become a source of positive change within your organization? As you probably know, there is a myriad of techniques available which promise to have the answer to leading people. However, each of these techniques is only as good as it is applicable to your situation. Thankfully, there are three simple and unchangeable principles which you can use to adapt and to any situation in leading people.

The first principle is to assess a persons’ tendency towards security or excitement. People who are faster paced and more decisive are the people who value excitement more and who are probably going to get bored easier. These are the people who you want to handle the high pressure tasks which must get done now. On the other hand, the slower paced and more deliberate people are the best to handle the tasks which involve repetition and require accuracy. In order to make the most of each team member, knowing their tendency towards security or excitement is the key to success.

The second principle is to understand a person’s strengths in either doing things alone or in a group where they are relating with other people. The more open and expressive types are going to be your people oriented and the more analytical people would prefer tasks. If you approach a task oriented person talking about what they did this weekend or what you did you may be thinking that you are building a connection when they are just ready to get to the bottom line. On the other hand, a people oriented person is likely to feel undervalued if you do not do this. Understanding which one a person is will make a big difference in your ability to relate with them.

The final principle is to verify with people that you understand them before you attempt to tell them or to teach them something. For better or worse, people need to feel that they are understood and if they feel that they are not then they will be much more stubborn. You can try to change this principle of nature or you can deal with it as it is. The best way for you to make sure that you understand someone is to verify it with them. Tell people what you believe that you hear them saying in your own words, if they agree that you are getting it then you are on the right track. If not, better to make sure that you understand them before you move on.

Use these principles in leading and relating with people and you will find that you are able to lead in any circumstance. You will be able to adapt your approach according to the need of the moment instead of trying to work some system or technique which may or may not fit. The person who can internalize principles is the best kind of leader because they no longer need new systems or resources, they become a resource unto themselves. This is why it is so important to learn, practice an live these principles in leading your most valuable resource.

Are you looking for some ways to increase personal productivity while maintaining employee morale? You know that no matter how hard you try to motivate people to be more productive that helping them to find their own sense of drive is much more effective. So what is the key to unlocking the internal potential of your term and making sure that they make the most of their strengths? In order to ensure that you get the most out of your teams efforts by inspiring them to put their heart and soul into their work, there are three mind mapping techniques which can use.

The first technique is using mind mapping to connect the team’s strengths with a sense of contribution for the team. This can be done through using the mind mapping diagram to draw relationships between a person’s talents and what they view as being the teams’ greatest need. While at first it may seem that there are no relationships, the engagement of the logical and creative mind is bound to draw a connection somewhere. The most important thing about using this process, is it helps the individual to arrive at the conclusion themselves. This will ensure that they are totally convinced of the connection and that they will invest their efforts into using the talent to fulfill the needs of the team.

The second mind mapping principle is to use the diagram to connect each person’s strength to the overall vision of the team. This will ensure that they will be able to look past their own fears and frustrations and understand that they are a part of something bigger than themselves. Sometimes when people are working too much on their own personal productivity they lose a sense of the bigger picture. However, once they see that they are supporting a collective effort they are able to get outside of themselves and work with a great sense of purpose.

The third technique is to promote a higher moral and a greater atmosphere for each person to use their strengths with a positive attitude. This can be done by using the mind map diagram to draw relationships between each team members talents and helping them to gain a greater appreciation for their own talents as well as those of their team members. It is always easier to see the value of a skill when someone understands how it supports to efforts of others. This will promote a higher team morale and more positive atmosphere which will encourage the best use of each person’s strengths.

These seemingly small connections will help your team members to get back into the game on a psychological level and to build their appreciation for one another. Sometimes, it is so easy to get caught up in the how of something that you lose scope of the why. One of the jobs of a leader is to reinforce the why; using these techniques is the key for assisting your team members to face to face with the why themselves. This kind of approach promotes self reliance, confidence and encourages better morale and personal effectiveness for everyone.

Managing an event is a very daunting and challenging activity. It can be quite nerve wracking, and even specialists who have experience of managing numerous events often have to struggle with unforeseen situations. The reason is that to make an event a hit, one needs to conduct elaborate planning and also ensure perfect and fail-safe implementation of the plans. That are a lot of aspects that need to be seriously considered, and several undesirable situations are to be taken into account. The tips given below can be very helpful in handling a successful event.

The most important part of your event is the venue, so it must be chosen after much deliberation. The venue you choose should be in accordance with the spirit and essence of the occasion. You will have to decide whether you want an indoor venue or an open air one, and which site your guests will be happiest with. You must make sure that the venue can accommodate the assembly of guests comfortably, and to be on the safe side, it is advisable to choose a venue having a capacity that is more than what you need.

Any event requires some staff who can help the guests with food and refreshments or receive them at the gate. To make sure that the invitees feel relaxed at the event, the employees have to be polite and helpful. When you go to the venue to check it out, try to keep an eye on how the staff deals with you and if they are friendly enough.

Most events have provisions for serving lunch or dinner, along with snacks to the guests. If it is a lengthy event, then the standard of food becomes quite critical. It is a usual practice for the venue to have its own catering service, and otherwise they will be able to suggest to you a good external one. Select the menu cautiously, considering the kind of invitees who will be present at the event. You also need to check the food to get a fair idea of the culinary skills of the caterer before hiring its services.

You must take into account the fact that accidents or injuries are not uncommon at almost all types of events. It is very important that instant care is available at the event if someone suffers injuries. You should ensure that all emergency evacuation routes are clear and the doors are easily accessible so that the invitees can make a safe and quick exit in case of a fire.

Although there are some other issues too that could make an event a hit or a flop with the assembled guests, being mindful of these tips will significantly lower the risk of mishaps and unforeseen situations arising during the event. You can also consult professionals in this area, particularly if you are organizing the event on a large scale.

Successful team building has been a staple of both large and small corporations for decades. The benefits of these techniques have allowed employees to tackle any sized project with outstanding results.

Open communication between all team members must be stressed at the outset of forming the team in order to be successful. Interaction among team members is critical to achieving your goals for completing the task. Besides, a lack of communication between team members will not allow for you to effectively manage the resources of your team.

Effectively delegating tasks among team member is also an important part of successful team building. The last thing any manager wants to see is several people working on the same task. Laying out each team member’s responsibility at the beginning of the project will eliminate this. With each team member concentrating on a specific task, you can complete the overall project must faster. Now with everyone’s role clearly defined, you can work more efficiently as a team.

Conflict among the team members is often the number one reason that team’s are unable to complete their tasks on time. The team leader is responsible for selecting the team members whose skills will compliment each other and allow for the project to be completed successfully. There will always be some conflict between team members but it’s the job of the team leader to effectively manage these differences of opinion.

It’s also important not to consider the number of team members you’ll need based on the size of the project. A team that has too many members, for instance, will wind up being less efficient than a team that had fewer members. Find just the right number of team members to efficiently complete the project is essential to getting the most productivity out of your employees.

The real benefits of successful team building really shine through when tackling large and complex projects. Several large corporations actually use multiple teams working in conjunction to complete extremely large and complex projects. An ideal example of this strategy can be found on large construction projects. The construction of a large sports stadium involves teams of contractors and laborers working together while you also have teams of engineers, architects, and construction managers interacting with each. Ideally, each team interacts with each other to share information and ultimately bring the project in under budget and on time.

You can apply this formula to just about any sized project in order to complete it successfully and ahead of schedule. Depending on the size of the project, you can adjust the number of people on your team to effectively complete the project in your specified timeframe. You can either have hundreds of people working on your team or as little as a handful.

Successful team building has proven itself to be a great technique for completing large scale projects effectively. Selecting the right resources for your team will allow you to undertake even the most ambitious project timelines with the highest levels of success.

Team building events serve a single aim, which is increasing the efficacy of the team by developing the bonding between team mates. These events are being adopted by organizations throughout the world and specialized events companies now help you in arranging them. [...]

by Roselyn Clinton

Team building events promote better interpersonal relationships among team members and improve the team’s efficacy and overall performance. All big organizations in almost all corners of the world now conduct such events under the supervision of events companies who help in their planning and implementation.

But before choosing an events company you have to take into account some considerations so that you don’t end up with the wrong one.

The first thing that you must verify is whether the events company has experience of holding team building events. These events need a special kind of knowhow, so picking a company that is yet to absorb the finer aspects of such events would not be advisable at all. Hence, you should go for a firm which knows what team building is all about.

Then you should make sure that you are engaging a local firm based in your city or state and not an external agency from a different region altogether. To hold these events with success, it is quite important that the organizers understand the cultural background from which the team members hail, and there is no one better at this than a local firm.

The dynamics of your organization’s work environment must be understood by the events company without much delay. The team building event must be designed with the particular requirements of your company in mind. Whether seniors are on friendly terms with their juniors and whether there are friendly relations among members within the peer group should be properly understood by the organizers.

Proper training in how people behave at work and human psychology must have been obtained by the people organizing the event. They must have an idea of how people react to tough situations, what stimulates them, and what is effective and what is not effective in a formal social set up.

Team building events are normally theme based. So when you are selecting a firm, inquire about what all themes they focus on and see if they suit your needs. For example, if you are seeking the thrills of an adventurous event, then your events company must have the ability to arrange for such excursions, handle all the risks, and deal with all the vendors.

Finally, any team building event can be successful only if it is enjoyable for the participants. To guarantee this, you need to focus upon the personality of the organizer. The organiser should have a good personality and should be of a cheerful and pleasant nature, which will reflect in the participants. This will ensure that employees feel relaxed at the event and see it as a respite from long spells of work. This will also make them eagerly anticipate similar events in the near future.
